Straight

I got my hair cut last week. It's a short graduated bob, and I've been loving it with the curls. Today I was curious to see what it looked like straight, so I went with it.

It is VERY rare that I completely straighten my hair like this, and I like the curls much better anyhow.

Avon?!

When I think of hair care, Avon isn't really the first thing to come to mind. Sorry Avon! About a month ago I was in the shower, and I found a shampoo and conditioner set my mom had left in there, probably because it was an extra bathroom before I moved in.

It's a coconut moistorizing conditioner, so I tried it. My. Hair. Is. SO. Soft!

Kudos to Avon! When I rinsed the shampoo out it left my hair feeling soft already, and there were barely any tangles in it. That, coupled with the conditioner, left my hair feeling great!

I have been using it alternatley between my Matrix Silver shampoo, but I am loving the Avon!

Pedicure

After having an entire week of bad hair days, I'm taking a moment out to write about my feet. It's not technically hair related, since I luckily have no hair on my feet, but I'm figuring it counts because in hair school we do pedicures, so there you go...

I got bored tonight and painted my toes. I have this horrible habit lately of buying OPI nail polish at school. Honestly, I don't really even like the stuff, I think it's clumpy and gooey, but every time we get a new collection there I am, buying bottles!

Tonight I thought I'd try something new and went with "steady as she rose" and spiced it up with a dash of "mermaid's tears", both from the Pirates of the Carribean collection. It was half dark when I painted, and it's late, so don't judge.

More hair updates next week!

HaircutE!

I cut all my hair off tonight. Ok, so not all of it. But when we were done chopping it looked like someone had murdered Goldilocks on the salon floor.

Shawna did an absolutely awesome job, and I love it. We went for a graduated bob in the back, layered and used thinning shears, and left the sides pretty much where they were.

As a result of this my curls bounced up underneath like little springs, and overall my hair feels much healthier after a good chop. Also good for the summer months.

I had been growing it out for the past 2 years and was just ready for a change. My hair has just been either up in a pony or tucked into a headband for weeks now, and I was getting lazy. With this new cut it's just wash, diffuse for 10 min, ruffle, and go!

Devachan

I heard about this salon through a client I had come through school. After stalking their website and watching a slew of YouTube videos on the place, I think it's safe to say that I'm in love, and this would be my dream job.

It just so happens that I'm leaving for New York City tommorrow, and this is one stop on my trip that I'm not going to miss. Maybe I could offer myself as a shampoo slave when I finish school next spring...

Stay tuned for an update next week!

Day 14 Curly

So it's been two weeks, and besides my one slip up, I haven't straightened my hair. Not once. I feel like I should get a medal for this, but that might be reaching a bit far...

My curls are officially coming back. The top layer has been a bit slow in catching up, but it's getting there. The bottom looks like a spring loaded party ready to rock.

I've also been using the coconut oil on a consistent basis, about twice a week. I have noticed a HUGE different in the softness of my hair. It's gone from strawlike to actually feeling like hair, which is pretty much what I'm going for.

This weekend I'm heading to New York City, and I might crack and straighten it, but only because I want to look professional while visiting salons. With the whole bangs-growing-out phase I've been wearing my headbands pretty much every day, and I think the whole "headband/trangle curls" look is not one I want to project while trying to look like a well groomed hair stylist. My hair is not quite there. Yet.

Headbands Pt. 2

As we all know, I love headbands. Why? Because my hair is insane, and headbands help me keep it somewhat contained and tamed. And with a good headband, you can never go wrong.

So, in the spirit of keeping up my ever growing collection of quirky headbands, I found a seller on Etsy this morning that I might just have to empty out of stock.

I love how some of the models are wearing them wrapped just around their heads, it makes me want to try it as well. And the wideness of the bands is PERFECT for hiding my bangs! This one is my favorite so far, and I'm sure I'll be getting some plain colors as well...

Lately I've also been playing with the idea of trying to make my own, these wrap headbands are hard for me to find without going online. I found a site online that has great tutorials, so I think I'm going to try one of them myself. Hopefully next week, with photos to follow!

Pool Hair

This weekend marked the first of many that I'll be spending in chlorine, sun, and most likely alcohol. Luckily, the alcohol will probably not hopefully not be comming into contact with my hair. Sadly, chlorine and sun will.

I bought some Aussie 3 Minute Miracle, with the plan of just throwing it on after I get out of the pool. In the past I've not really had good luck with Aussie shampoos and conditioners. For some reason they leave my hair still dry and hard to comb through. The mousse and hair spray work wonderfully, so I'm not sure why the others don't. I suppose everyone's hair is just different.

I tried this stuff already last week. I left it in for about 3 minutes (which is a stretch for me as I'm notoriously impatient) and when I rinsed it out, it left my hair feeling like a normal conditioner would.

No fireworks for this stuff, but maybe it'll work as a good leave in while I'm at the pool in between dips.

Also good for the pool, Loreal detangler for Kids. Yes, Kids! I discovered this while I was on my short lived "I'm going hit the gym every day and swim laps" phase. This stuff I LOVE! It works great for spraying on after you're out of the water, and they're not kidding, no tears! I didn't cry. Ok, maybe once, but only out of sheer joy of how awesome this stuff is...

Fail

So after a good run of not straightening my hair, epic fail this evening. I caved and went stick straight.

On the plus side, at least I used a heat protectant.

Flat Iron = 1
Jasmin = 0

Old School

I'm going to go a little bit retro here, but I'm a firm believer in using it if it works for you, no matter how cheap or passe.

I started using Mane and Tail about 2 years ago, for no other reason than it was supposed to make your hair grow, because DUH, they use it on horses! Anyhow, I digress. I started using it, and after a few weeks my hair was noticeably softer, less tangled, and in overall pretty good shape.

The stuff is pretty cheap and old school, but I'm a fan. I stopped using it awhile back, and didn't notice until recently that my hair was actually in much better shape when I was using it. So I think I'm going to regress back to the horse shampoo this weekend.

I've also read about the detangler, the reviews are about 50/50 on that, but as I haven't yet tried it myself I'm not sure, and might pick up some of that as well...

Shoutout!

A young lady came into the salon last night for some highlights, with what I think was the most gorgeous head of curlies I have ever seen. Yea, I was jealous!

The highlights turned out beautifully, and since this is a curly hair blog I thought I'd post the finished product! Thanks for the photo Jes!
