Networking

Going into the hairdressing field, I know how absolutely important networking is. That said, I'm really BAD at it! Seriously. But... I'm getting better.

This morning I had to take my dog (an adorably lovable cocker spaniel if you'd like to know) to the groomer. While there I randomly mentioned that at time I'd like to take my own clippers to him, at which point the girl realized I did hair.

She said she had just moved here, and didn't have a hairstylist yet, so what did I do? I gave her my business card of course! So sometime next week it looks like I'll have myself a brand new client!

At work last night, I was waiting on a family, and when the mom commented on my hair I said I was in hair school. She had me write my information down for her so that she could book an appointment with me.

I'm slowly realizing that it's not about "selling" or being creepy, both of which I'm insanely uncomfortable with. I hate "salespeople". For me, it's just casual conversation that warms me up to people, and if there's a connection, then they'll come see me.

Both of these women said that they had planned to book appointments with me, which made me super happy and excited. Each time this happens I gain more confidence in what I'm doing, and it makes networking not so bad after all!
